Mastery Journal Q & A (IDT574)

Updated: May 6, 2025

Thinking about all the assignments you did this month, which ones are you selecting to go into your portfolio folder? I chose to display projects two, three, and four. These projects showcase the crawl-walk-run approach to multi-modality elements in learning. I was able to successfully create audio, a video, and then an interactive module for the Osceola Welcome Center and Museum scenario provided in class.

What does your selection(s) say about you as an instructional designer? My selections show the progression over time when one is immersed in learning to perfect their craft. It also shows that I was able to internalize the theories and concepts provided (cognitive load theory; cognitive theory of multimedia learning; dual channel processing; flow theory; an intrinsic motivation) through our required reading to then supplant some of those elements in the multi-modalities we were required to work with.

What skills did you learn this month? How can you best demonstrate those in your final portfolio? I learned quite a few skills this month. Dr. M was gracious enough to confirm that I was already using some tools in editing ScreenFlow, but that I was unaware of the official name for them (jumpcuts for instance). One of my biggest goals in gaining my Master's degree is to become a more skilled editor and produce more professional content. This course heightened many of those skills and provided me with confidence, solidifying that I am on the right track. I plan to keep projects two, three, and four in my mastery journal to be displayed in my final portfolio.
